Hi!
Welcome! My name is Karen and I am a homeschool Mom
My husband and I have the three best cherubs in the universe for children! They range in age from 8 to 14. Two girls and a boy.

I never had any intention of homeschooling. I come from a culture that places high value on academic achievement. I have a Bachelors degree – a HUGELY useful one
– English and the Theory of Film. I am seriously overqualified to tell you if you should go see that movie!
My Dearest Hubby and Hero has several degrees and is even an Associate Professor for UWO. We spent years in the institutions of higher learning. He loved school. Me, not so much…..but I love to learn!
When we moved to Ontario I marched my first born off to Junior Kindergarten without a moment of thought other than which was the best school to choose. Turns out she hated it – a lot!! She would cry all the way to school every morning and so I would cry all the way home. That lasted for several months until; I couldn’t take it any more.
“There has to be a better way!” I found myself yelling. I started researching everything about early education. I read everything that I could get my hands on. I interviewed people. I learned a fortune of information.
I was delighted to discover the homeschool movement and being an academic researched that in depth. I went to meet the local families and that was the golden moment.
I walked into the gymnasium where eight or ten families met every week to play. The Moms were mostly seated, chatting and looking happy. The room was alive with children of every age whizzing around, chasing balls or each other and it was loud with laughter. I saw no age discrimination. Teens played with the younger kids and everyone seemed to have a sixth sense about not stepping on the tots. When I chatted with one of the teens, she was articulate, sociable and polite. She looked me in the eye and spoke clearly.
I was so impressed.
It looked idyllic. Of course, I know now that people who are very good at something make it look easy and homeschooling is not the easiest choice. The easiest choice is to abdicate all responsibility for your child’s education to the government system and shrug your shoulders and complain when their are issues.
Homeschooling has been the very best thing that we could have done for our family. My Hero and I have had the huge blessing of spending heaps of time with our children who have grown into people we really enjoy spending time with. I am delighted with the education that they have and are receiving. The feedback we have from other adults and mentors about them is unfailingly positive. They have had opportunities and adventures that would have been absolutely impossible to organise for a schooled child.
So, all that said, why am I creating this site?
1. I believe that the internet and technology will be a hugely important piece of my childrens’ economic future. In order to facilitate that learning for them, I have to learn some of it first, enough to know what questions to ask next.
2. I am passionate about learning! Part of learning is teaching or supporting other people in their learning adventure. I have been actively homeschooling my kids since 2000 – over the years I have learned a great deal that is not in any of the books that came my way when we were starting out. I found myself wanting to share those Aha! moments.
Over the years many people have come to me with their starting out questions. The Homeschooling How To questions and the Why Homeschool questions and even the “What curriculum for homeschool should I choose?” questions. I have been delighted to coach them and share the nuggets I have.
Creating this site seemed to be an obvious next step in all of our educations.
